In 2013, Kansas City celebrated its biggest Global Entrepreneurship Week. A total of 62 activities were held across the metropolitan area, hosted by 100+ organizations and drawing more than 5,500 participants. Preparations are under way for more outstanding results this November 1723 when Global Entrepreneurship Week marks its seventh year.

October 28th

Operation First Step FastTrac

6:00-9:00pm

 

Do you dream of owning a business?  Operation First Step FastTrac can help you turn that dream into a reality.  During this 7-week curriculum you will develop a start-up plan that will help you not only start, but succeed in business. You will get a specific road map for starting your business, be exposed to subject matter experts, identify funding needs, and position yourself to seek out funding, all while developing a network of resources.  Attendance at a free orientation is required to apply for these classes.  Orientations are hosted on August 26 and September 9 from 6:00-7:30pm.  Classes are hosted starting on Saturday, September 20, from 8:30-3:30pm.  Classes continue every Monday evening from 6:00-9:00pm starting September 23 and ending on October 28. This course is offered at a subsidized rate of $75 to allow individuals who meet low- to moderate-income guidelines to participate in an in-depth training program.  Similar programs range from $550-$700.  For more information and to confirm your participation, contact Judy Bumpus at [email protected] or (816) 786-3959.

Pay Yourself First is a module of the FDIC Money Smart curriculum on why you should save.  Over two million participants have taken the Money Smart courses.  Classes are held at the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Resident Services Department, 299 Paseo Blvd., Kansas City, MO  64106.  The classes are free and held on Tuesday mornings.

KCMO CDE – Financing Your Small Business

 Need a loan to help start or grow your business?  Unable to get a traditional bank loan due to start-up status, small size of loan or credit issues?

Attend a free informational session to learn about several programs designed to help fund small businesses.  You’ll hear from community partners Justine PETERSEN, the KCMO CDE and the Women’s Business Center.

Kansas City Regional Microloan Fund – provides small dollar loans to entrepreneurs who cannot receive a traditional bank loan.  Microloan Fund features:

  • Microloans between $500 and $50,000
  • Interest rates between 8-12% with terms up to 60 months.

Small Business Lenders Summit

8:30 am – 2:00 pm

 

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation will conduct a Small Business Lenders Summit at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

 

Get up to date information to:

  • Increase your lending by maximizing state and federal credit enhancement programs;
  • Grow and retain your small business customers with valuable funding and technical assistance resources;
  • Navigate the benefits and challenges of lending enhancements with a panel of regulators.

 

If you are unable to attend the event, you can join a live online stream of the Summit.  The online stream will deliver the Summit to your home or office and will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT.

This daylong seminar will cover the basics of starting a small business, including determining whether your idea is feasible, creating a business plan, choosing a legal entity, forming financial projections, marketing, developing a Web presence and bookkeeping. Guest presenters will include an attorney, a commercial banker, a credit expert and an accountant.  Entrepreneurs will share their story during a “lunch and learn” session, with an opportunity for questions.  Box lunch provided.
